Products I Actually Used During Pregnancy (and those I didn't!)
Alright, ladies, I have two weeks to go until my first pregnancy is over (honestly, thank Goodness!) and currently my life is sleeping, eating, and preparing my workload to have a baby.
When I first found out I was pregnant I went hard on the things that the internet told me to buy in order to make this pregnancy smooth sailing and comfortable. I am fairly confident now that I can tell you: some of it is actually bullshit and completely unnecessary. Some of it however is a god-send.
So we’ll have two sections: bullshit vs God-send.
BULLSHIT
These are products I was told were definitely needed during pregnancy, so of course, never having experienced it before I ordered it online and waited for it to rock up at my door. Some of these things I didn’t even use, some I used once and then promptly forgot about.
“Maternity Clothes”
Hear me out on this one- I did invest in a couple of good quality pairs of maternity pants, but other than that adding the word “maternity” to clothes ups the price. I simply went up a size or two in my normal clothes and was fine.Home doppler
I posted on my @the.anxiousmumma Instagram that I enjoyed having the reassurance of one of these around- which was true at the time, I didn’t lie! The thing is, I remember paying some silly amount of money for it to be used three times maximum. Plus there is the whole argument for how accurate they are etc.Perineal massage oil
Brought it, could not wait to start using it because you’re supposed to wait until 34 weeks. I got to 34 weeks and just simply forgot about it. Also I cannot see my vagina so whatever.“Anti-Stretch Mark Cream”
I made the mistake of buying all these different oils and creams because I was SO worried about getting stretch marks- I used them religiously and can now confirm I still have stretch marks. I have since ditched any expensive products and use Vitamin E cream and Bio-Oil.Maternity Bras
I brought two maternity bras in the last nine months and I do not wear either of them- they sit in my top drawer doing nothing. Instead, I wear sports bras day in, day out. I prefer this because they have so much support, they’re comfy and when your boobs are in that really sore stage there is no way they are going to move around. An overabundance of pregnancy books.
Limit yourself or you will become overwhelmed!
GOD-SEND
Honestly, some of these things I will find a way to continue using after pregnancy because I love them.
A full body pregnancy pillow
I was SUPER skeptical about this one and was sure it was going to be in the bullshit column because I brought it at around 12 weeks and it sat under my bed, unused and collecting dust until around 25 weeks. It was only at this point that I was finding it really uncomfortable to sleep and grabbed this out because I was so frustrated. Best. Thing. Ever!!! I could not sleep without it right now.A lifetime supply of antacid
I have never had such bad heartburn in my life- honestly, I chew through quickeze tablets like they are lollies. They’re next to my bed, in my handbag, at my desk, in the lounge room- I need easy access.Slip-on shoes
I was very naive to think that I would be able to wear my signature sneaker style for the whole of my pregnancy. Newsflash: I could not. My feet are swollen for one, and for the second I can’t bloody reach down to tie them up slip-on shoes are essential.Comfortable underwear.
There is a time to be someone who wears g-strings and cute undies day in, day out. This is not that time. Comfort over style when it comes to what underwear you are wearing during your pregnancy.Pantyliners
While we are on the subject- panty liners are also very useful because the amount of discharge you’re producing increases. Unless you want to carry around a couple of extra pairs of undies I suggest grabbing a pack of liners.
Were there products that got you through your pregnancy that you think deserve to be on the God-send list? What about those products you brought because someone told you they were a necessity and then you never used them? Let us know!
