The ALP Launch Their 2022 Campaign

The election campaign of the Labor Party has officially launched- in little old Perth no less.Optus Stadium turned a shade of red as member of the ALP descended on the home of WA footy to launch the Australian Labor Party’s 2022 election campaign.

Big names included Mark McGowan, Kevin Rudd, Paul Keating and Wayne Swan- who received a standing ovation as they entered. Penny Wong was also there and made the following remark in her speech:

"On May 21, Australians can choose something so much better. It's a choice between a united, focused Labor team, or the Liberals and Nationals - a rebel that masquerades as a Coalition. Whose own members warn Australians that Scott Morrison is not fit to be the Prime Minister. It's a choice between Labor, which has delivered the big reforms, and three decades of unbroken economic growth. And the Morrison Government, which doesn't know when to stop spending for themselves."

During the launch Labor leader Anthony Albanese has made a number of promises during his speech at the launch:

1️⃣ Reducing the cost of medication on the PBS by $12.50 thus making it cheaper for general patients.  This could help someone taking just one medication per year $150.00.

2️⃣ Higher quality care in aged care homes including more carers, 24/7 nurses in-house and more nutritious meals.

3️⃣ Making gender pay equity an objective of the fair work act.

“We need to fix the persistent, structural barriers that prevent so many women securing decent jobs and careers, and financial security over the course of your lives.

4️⃣ Funding for more university places and 465,000 fee-free places at public TAFES. As well as the creation of a new national authority called Jobs and Skills Australia that will ensure the needs of the labour market are met.

5️⃣ The building of more electric vehicle charging stations across the country.

“Together with Labor’s already announced electric vehicle discount, we’ll make it easier and cheaper for your next car to be electric,”“Together with Labor’s already announced electric vehicle discount, we’ll make it easier and cheaper for your next car to be electric."

6️⃣ A $1 billion investment into developing value-added products from Australian resources as a part of its National Reconstruction Fund.

“We’ll take resources like lithium and nickel – essential elements of the batteries that will power the vehicles of the future – and instead of shipping them to another country to make batteries, we’ll have what we need to make them right here."

7️⃣A $329 million “Help To Buy” program which will provide an “equit contribution” of up to 40% of the price of a new home and 30% for existing dwellings. The owner of the home will not have to pay rent on the share of the property that the government would own and they would recoup their investment when the house was eventually sold. Although, the owner would be able to buy further stakes in the house during the period that they own it. The number of homes in this program would be limited to 10,000 and not limited to first home buyers, just people who do not currently own a property.

Other promises he briefly touched on included:

  • An investment in infrastructure to boost productivity and create jobs.

  • Improvements to regional roads and major highways (much needed!!!)

  • Investing into improving rail lines for freight and communters.

  • Access for more Australians to high speed broadband.
